CARNATION PURPLE FAIRY

Carnations are one of the oldest cultivated flowers, with extensive breeding over centuries to develop new colours, forms, and spray types. ‘Purple Fairy’ is one of the newer spray carnation selections offering a vivid purple hue combined with multiple buds per stem, catering to designs that require colour intensity without relying on large singular roses or large focal flowers.

Rich, well-draining soil with neutral to slightly alkaline pH. Full sun or very bright indirect light promotes strong bloom formation. Consistent moisture is important, though avoid waterlogging. After flowering, remove spent blooms (deadheading) to encourage further sprays. Supply adequate support or spacing so that multiple spray heads don’t cause collapse of stems.

‘Purple Fairy’ is ideal for adding texture and lush colour in spray-rose-style designs, mixed bouquets, boutonnieres, and arrangements where fullness without singular dominance is desired. It works beautifully with pastel tones for weddings or softer aesthetics, but it can also provide contrast when paired with lighter greens or neutral tones. Its multiple blooms per stem make it efficient for volume, and its vase life tends to be good when properly conditioned (cut fresh, kept cool, with clean water).
